Tips on Building your First Website

Building your first website can seem like a daunting task, if you are new to programming or design. In fact, many people give up on their first try but don’t let this stop you. My web design skills furthered over the years, but in the beginning it was only a hobby. As years passed, I began learning much more. It’s possible for anyone to start building their first website, even in less than a day. The tutorials they have out there are very precise, and most are easy to understand. Here are some tips on building your very first site.

  • Decide how you are going to build your site. For example, you can use platforms such as WordPress to create a site without programming. This is great for those of you who are already designers but just need help in the web design department. You can also create an HTML site but beware of this – it can take a great while just to update a certain page or add new ones. This route isn’t recommended for online stores.
  • Take things slowly. If you don’t understand something, go over it three times or skip it. You can read up more about it online but at least try and move on with your current project. You want to get the site up ASAP and begin working on the rest of it.
  • Once your site is up, check the W3Schools for validation. You need to make sure there are no errors or anything. If so, you can correct it by looking up the exact line where the error is appearing. If you don’t understand, try signing up with some HTML or programming forums. There are plenty out there to choose from and many people are very helpful.
  • Always concentrate on completing your site. Don’t leave out any links which lead you to nowhere. Google doesn’t like broken links so this is very important. Each page should be completed with at least an article or two, instead of blank.
